SYTYCD Choreographers Finally Brought It! November 21, 2009

I was a little worried for SYTYCD when Mia Michaels (@MMRAW) left the show, and the first three performance shows of SYTYCD were just… satisfactory.

But, this past week, So You Think You Can Dance Season 6 finally WOWs. *phew*

The Top 14 performance episode was the first episode this season that really impressed me and reminded me why I LOVE SYTYCD.

However, the criticism towards the dancers from Nigel is pretty annoying. He’s trying to blame it on the dancers, but honestly.. I think he’s just trying to cover up for the fact that it’s the quality of the choreography that’s inconsistent and lacking. I have noticed the show is trying out a lot of new choreographers this season. They are trying to make up for Mia Michaels’ absence… and they probably also want to make sure that the success of the show doesn’t fall so heavily on one choreographer in the future.

Nigel (@dizzyfeet) said the dancers finally brought it. In my opinion, the dancers this season have always been awesome… and btw, I thought Ellenore’s solo ROCKED.

The statement should be: “The choreographers finally brought it!” Not to take away from the fact that there are quite a few amazing choreographers that are consistently brilliant, like Napoleon and Tabitha D’uomo (@nappytabs), Tyce Diorio (@tycediorio), Travis Wall (@TravISova), Wade Robson, and some awesome new additions like Stacy Tookey and Nakul Dev Mahajan… there’s definitely a lot of talented choreographers on the show, but there are also some mediocre ones.

I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes this week. In the meantime, here are my three absolute favorite routines of this episode:

Dancers: Kathryn McCormick and Jonathan “Legacy” Perez
Choreography: Paso Doble by Tony Meredith
Song: “Persuit” from Cirque du Soleil
Performance Show: Nov. 17th

Dancers: Ellenore Scott and Ryan Di Lello
Choreography: Contemporary routine by Travis Wall
Song: “Your Ex-Lover is Dead” by Stars
Performance Show: Nov. 17th

Dancers: Ashleigh Di Lello and Jakob Karr
Choreography: Hip-Hop Routine by Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo
Song: “Whatcha Say” by Jason Derulo
Performance Show: Nov. 17th
